“There is too much focus on supporting athletes based on winning gold medals, and indeed their perceived gold medal potential, but that means people like Pete have historically been left out in the cold,” James Templeton says. “He (Bol) has received the grand sum of $5,000 in funding over the past six years in total because he didn’t meet the rigid criteria to be assessed for ‘podium potential’.”
