Camille Buscomb has been added to the Athletics NZ team for the 2017 London World Championships.

Her addition comes following a stunning run of 31:45.02 over 10,000m in Stanford, California on Sunday.

The time is 30 seconds under the London qualifying mark and a personal best by 41 seconds for the 26 year-old full time athlete from Cambridge. It is also under the nomination standard for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Buscomb won silver over 5000m at the 2015 World University Games but narrowly missed qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 5000m.

Her move up to the 10,000m has been very successful and in December last year she won the prestigious Zatopek 10,000m in Melbourne, surprising many and claiming some significant scalps in the process.

The Hamilton City Hawks athlete, coached by Nick Bideau is currently based in Mt Laguna near San Diego training with a group of Australian athletes before commencing a European campaign in early June.

Buscomb joins her Hamilton City Hawks clubmate Zane Robertson who has been selected in the men’s 10,000, along with shot putters Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill, pole vaulter Eliza McCartney, sprinter Joseph Millar and race walker Quentin Rew named in April.

Further selections will be announced in coming months.
