One of Australia’s most exciting middle distance runners, Abbey Caldwell, has become the latest member of the sub-2-minute club, clocking 1:59.31 at the Monaco Diamond League women’s 800m. In a fast race (won in 1:56.98), Caldwell hung back before unleashing her trademark kick, passing Australian Linden Hall to finish 5th. Hall finished 7th in 2:00.44.
Caldwell, the Australian 1500m champion, fresh off winning her first global championship medal with her bronze in the Commonwealth games 1500m, just keeps kicking goals. She has hardly put a foot wrong this year. The time moves Abbey to number 5 on the Australian all-time list.
