The third Beer Mile World Classic (BMWC) is set to twist off on August 12th in London.

Preview

This will be the third Beer Mile World Classic (BMWC) after the inaugural race in 2015 in San Francisco.

Men’s race

Last year Corey Bellemore of Canada coasted to victory in a world record 4:34.35 with Britain’s Dale King-Clutterbuck runner-up in a European record of 4:47.39. But King-Clutterbuck went into the race unprepared at the end of a poor track season. He only found out he was doing the 2016 race a couple of days earlier and he even knocked back a few drinks before the race ‘to warm up’.

With Bellemore competing at the Francophone and World University Games, he won’t be defending his title, though there will still be top competition as the event features the deepest beer mile field ever assembled. Of the top 20 beer milers of all time, 16 of them will be lining up in London to lay claim to the coveted BMWC title.

The American beer milers are led by national record-holder Chris Robertson and they all have their eyes on the individual crown. Former world record-holders Josh “Harry” Harris from Australia and Canadian Corey “Whip Hubley” Gallagher are also in action and hoping for victory.

King-Clutterbuck will be joined on home soil by fellow Brit Ben Coldray. You can read more about how King-Clutterbuck is targeting beer mile glory here.

Women’s race

USA’s Allison Grace Morgan is favourite. She could break the world record and perhaps even become the first woman to break the six-minute barrier.

Britain’s Polly Keen, Laura Riches and Louise Rudd race on home soil.
