West Australian 800m runner, Peter Bol, is Tokyo bound. The Australian champ posted 1:44.88 on the Gold Coast today, at the Oceania Invitational Meet.

Bol, who is the 5th fastest Australian in history over 800m (1:44.56 set in 2018), dominated the Australian season, but was unable to clinch the 1:45.20 mark required for Olympic selection.  Post Nationals, Bol returned to training, guided by 800m specialist coach Justin Rinaldi, and now looks refreshed and ready to rewrite his PB over coming months. Few will argue that Bol doesn’t have the talent to medal at a major championships, perhaps his best opportunity to date will be at the upcoming Tokyo Games.

 It’s been a good week for coach Rinaldi and his Fast 8 Track Club; earlier this week, 34 year-old Jeff Riseley won a race in Italy, clocking 1:45.34 – awfully close to the Olympic standard.

In other results from the Gold Coast.  In the women’s 100m, Hana Basic ran under the Olympic qualifying time clocking 11.14. Unfortunately the wind reading was +2.4.
Hannah Jones improved her PB and ranking in the 100m hurdles clocking 12.91 (+0.5) to strengthen her chances of Olympic selection.
