Did You Know?

Jana Pittman-Rawlinson holds the world best time for the 300m hurdles - 39.00sec - recorded on the 11th July, 2004.

Three athletes still hold Australian records achieved at the 1968 Olympic Games - Peter Norman (200m), Ralph Doubell (800m) and Raelene Boyle (U20 100m&200m). Norman ran 20.06 in the 200m to capture a silver medal, Doubell recorded a 1.44.40 to win the gold medal in the 800m, while Boyle ran 11.20 and 22.74 for the 100m and 200m respectively.

Rohan Robinson would have to be the most consistent 400m hurdler in Australian history, recording an amazing 14 performances between 48.80sec and 48.99sec. Robinson also remains the Australian record holder with a time of 48.28 recorded when placing 4th in his semi final at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

Jagan Hames would have to be rated as one of the greatest allround athletes in Australian history. Not only does Hames hold the decathlon record (8,490 points), he also ranks 4th on the all-time high jump list (2.30m), 13th on the 110m hurdles all-time list (13.91sec) and 27th on the all-time list for the long jump (7.83m). I also witnessed Hames record an 8.00m+ foul in the long jump at Olympic Park in Melbourne, clearly showing his amazing athletic ability.
