If weather conditions are suitable the women’s course record of 2:20:59 is expected be attacked and may be even the 2:05:08 men’s course best could come under threat. Additionally a number of runners will chase Olympic qualification at Austria’s most prestigious road race. Organisers of the 41st Vienna City Marathon, which is a World Athletics Elite Label event, have registered a total of over 41,000 entries. More than 10,000 of them are marathon runners.

Abdi Nageeye set a new benchmark for Dutch runners, achieving a remarkable time of 2:04:45 in the Rotterdam Marathon, while Ashete Bekere of Ethiopia claimed victory in the women's event with a time of 2:19:30. The marathon, distinguished as a World Athletics Gold Label road race, unfolded on Sunday.
German winners Amanal Petros and Domenika Mayer smashed the course records at the ADAC Marathon Hannover. Defending champion Petros improved his own course best of 2:07:02 from last year by almost one minute, winning in 2:06:05 despite windy conditions and warm sunshine during the final part of the race. Petros, who is the national record holder with 2:04:58, ran the second fastest time ever achieved by a German marathon runner. Kenyans Boaz Kipkemei and Victor Kiplimo took second and third with 2:07:06 and 2:09:58 respectively.
