2009 'Movember Gift'

The Mark Hipworth "Hippo" Running Squad is holding a new, exciting meeting on the 22nd of November in conjunction with 2009/2010 Victorian Athletic League season.

Our meeting will be known as the 'Movember Gift', with all profits going towards the Movember Foundation, which raises money for prostate cancer.

The Movember Foundation is also closely linked with Beyond Blue who specializes in dealing with depression and bringing about general awareness in the community. Last year, the Mark Hipworth running Stable alone raised approximately $3000 toward the Movember cause, and they thought to take the awareness of this cause further, by staging an event unheralded in the pro running circuit.

Total prize money-$8000

The "MOVEMBER Gift" of 550 metres has a winning prize pool of $3000. This is one of the richest middle/long distance sprint races in Australia, and the richest 550 metre race in any Australian professional running circuit, attracting sprinters, as well as distance runners, willing to either step up or down a discipline, in an attempt to win this unique event. There will also be supporting events at the Movember Gift carnival:-

· 100m Open of $500
· 100m Women of $750
· 300m Open of $1000 (The richest 300 metre race on the professional circuit)
· 300m Veterens/Womens Gift of $500
· 800m Women of $500 (sponsored by the VCCL)
· 3200m Open of $1000 (The 2nd largest 2 mile race on the professional circuit - second only to Stawell).

The MOVEMBER Gift will be held on the Princess Park-Lawn 2, in Carlton Victoria, on an intimate, well-prepared grass track, making it a spectacle for runners and spectators. Be set for tight turns with much hustling and bustling for the prize!

Other Highlights: AFL Footballers and Umpires Relay, U17 races (VAL new initiative which is open to participants between the ages of 13-17yo), raffles, giveaways & more.

The Hippo Squad hope to make our meet a true community event and given the causes supported and theme of our meet, we hope that the entire VAL population support our meet but also spread the word to family and friends to attend given all money raised goes to Movember Foundation
