Pirrenee Steinert: RT Journals: Less Than 2 Weeks Out

posted by rtross on September 22, 2010, 6:33pm
It’s now 13 day’s until the start of the Commonwealth Games and I am definitely starting to get the odd buzz of excitement in my tummy. My Australian uniform arrived last week and this was certainly very exciting, cementing the fact that I had been chosen to represent our beautiful Country ‘Australia’. However I can’t say that the enormity of it all has set in yet,  but I don’t expect that it will until the Games are all over and I arrive back home.

I arrived in Cairns last night ready to compete at the Oceana Championships. I am loving the warm and muggy weather as it reminds me of my home town ‘Alice Springs’. I will spend the next 9 day’s here before departing for Delhi on the 30th.

I competed at the all stars meet in Sydney a week ago. The atmosphere whilst competing was fantastic, definitely put a spring in my step. It had been a long time between races so the first hit out is always a little scary. Although my time was not fantastic this was the first race in a while and I came away with a huge amount of confidence as I was very pleased with most of my race.  I feel very confident and expect dramatic improvements in my next couple of races here at the Oceana Games before departing for Delhi.

I recently made a big decision to quit my job as I was finding it quite difficult being a remedial massage therapist, balancing my training with my work. So decided to prioritize and focus my full attention on training,  at least until the Commonwealth Games are over anyway. So I have been enjoying the past month of being a full time athlete, which has definitely proved to be a great decision as I felt a huge amount of relief and training improved instantly.

Anyway better leave it there for now as my coach ‘Tony Fairweather’ is telling me to get to bed.

Pirrenee Steinert - Final Stages of Preparation

posted by rtsam on August 16, 2010, 2:52am

Hey Runners Tribe,

Not long now until I take off for Germany. We are in the final stages of preparation and things are going well. However, unfortunately things have not run as smoothly as I would have liked them to. I had a bit of an interruption with a niggle I was carrying and I then came down with a virus. Unfortunately, this interrupted my plans a little bit, but I am now back into things now, and feeling very optimistic.
There is still much to do before I take off, so I am just taking one week at a time to ensure I am at my best come Commonwealth Games.
I have also been quite busy with a fundraiser that I decided to organize for myself to put towards my sport. Genesis Fitness club has been very supportive and allowed me to base my fundraiser at the gym. I managed to gather some great prizes for my raffle including $1,000 worth of vouchers for New Balance footwear. So a massive thanks to New Balance for their generous donation. Thanks also to Genesis Fitness club for their support and also their generous donation for a 12 month gym membership. Also a big thanks to ‘Top Nutrition’ for all their support throughout the year and their generous donation of $750 worth of nutritional supplements. So far it has been received really well and most people have been very supportive.

Something exciting that happened recently was the launch of the advertisements for the new ‘New Balance’ compression range which appeared in the ‘Women’s and Men’s Health’ magazine. I did the modeling for the women’s range which was a lot of fun. It was very exciting to finally see their advertisements. The New Balance compression range should be available in shops this month, so make sure you check them out - they fit and wear fantastically.
Well, it has certainly been a very busy last few months but I am definitely the strongest I have ever been. I have been able to do a lot of strength work on my legs that I had previously not been able to do due to my back. This new strength is showing on the track, so I am certainly looking forward to running some fast times soon.
Bye for now.

Hey Runners Tribe,

I have officially become part of the Commonwealth Games team since I wrote to you last. To my delight I will represent Australia in Delhi as part of the women’s 4x400m relay team.

I have had a fantastic season. I can’t say that it has gone exactly to plan but I am definitely very proud of what I have achieved thus far this season.

After commencing my season with a PB performance of 52.81, I was left feeling very about the season ahead. I was also very optimistic about achieving an A qualifier to earn my own individual 400m spot for the Commonwealth Games.

Due to a few personal reasons, the lead up to Nationals was a real battle and this showed in many of my lead-in races. However, together with my coach, Tony Fairweather, we managed to pull things together and perform when it mattered most.

I was absolutely over the moon with my performance at Nationals. I felt I performed under pressure and produced a new PB of 52.78 taking home the silver medal.

Right now I am back into heavy training and racing the odd 400m here and there to work on my race plan in preparation for the Commonwealth Games and beyond. After an annual performance assessment with my coach we are set to prepare for the upcoming season with plenty to work on in training. The fact that my coach and myself believe that I have a lot to work on is a real confidence boost, as it makes me hopeful of significant improvements J

Although there is still so much athletics to be raced in 2010, I can’t help but be excited for the following season. I am looking forward to breaking up the typical athletic season with a highly anticipated trip overseas. I look forward to experiencing the overseas athletic scene and competition in hopes of inspiration, personal growth and development as an athlete.

I am also busy seeking a financial sponsor for myself so I can afford to be a full time athlete and ensure that I give myself every opportunity to be at my best for the lead up to the London Olympic Games and beyond.

I guess I can say that the experiences both good and bad that I have encountered during my athletic career thus far have served me very well. The Olympic Games is only 2 years away and together with my coach, Tony Fairweather, I intend to prepare myself to the best of my ability during this time. Thanks to all the up’s and down’s from the past I feel I have a pretty clear picture about what exactly I need to do so that I am the best possible athlete that I can be, come the 2012 Olympic Games.

A Good Start To The Season: By Pirrenee Steinert

I had a great introduction to my racing season with a win in the womens feature sprint race at the famous Bay Sheffield in SA. The Bay Sheffield is always a great event to be apart of. Having a win in my home town in front of family and friends was amazing.

Its great to be able to race in some sprints. Although I specialize in the 400m I have always loved to sprint. Thankfully now that my body is behaving itself I am now able to venture back into the 200m and some short sprint races in the pro events.

During the last couple of months of training to my delight I have been able to endure not only some speed training but also some sprint racing. I am currently looking forward to racing next week in the 200m in Canberra. Not only am I looking to run some fast, competitive times in this event but just by doing some fast racing it will be fantastic for my 400m event.

Training is continuing to go well. With few interruptions during my winter training I am set to start off my 2010 athletic season. It is certainly set to be a big one. With many races starting next week until end of April there will not be too much rest. But this is the time where we athletes get to show off all our hard work and dedications to the previous months of grueling training which we undergo 6 days of the week. This is the fun part of the season.we finally get to race and achieve the goals in which we have set ourselves.

My major athletic goal for 2010 is to qualify for the individual 400m event for the Commonwealth games team. There is still much work to be done to achieve this but this is certainly a realistic goal for myself.

Looking back the 2009 season was amazing for myself and full of surprises. Most of my goals were achieved and I represented Australia in the womens 4x400m team. How did this happen?? The 2009 season has just proved to me what I have always believed in. No matter how bad things can get and how hopeless they can seem. If you want something bad enough and you stay fiercely focused on what you want, work hard at it everyday, you will achieve!

Aside from the track side of my athletics I am still working towards the modeling dreams I have for my sport. I am constantly scouring for modeling events that I can involve myself in. In 2009 I was involved in a couple of body/figure competitions, I managed some New Balance modeling jobs and with all of this managed to get some great contacts for future work but also some sponsorships.

I am delighted to now be sponsored by New Balance. I am very proud to be sponsored by these guys but also being sponsored by them will certainly contribute to my season being an even better one.

RT Journals: Pirrenee Steinert- A Big Year

posted by rtross on November 22, 2009, 9:01pm
What a big year it has been. So much has happened. What threatened to be a disappointing end to the season, turned out to be my most successful season yet. I don’t quite know what went wrong at nationals but I couldn’t finish with a shocking run like that. I was coming in to fine shape for the first time in 3 years and I was determined to prove that. There was one race left and with no hesitation I was on my way to Canberra with nothing to loose. I finished the race with a 53.1 A career pb thus far. All the fighting, heartache and determination was worth it. For just this one moment…the relief and exhilaration I felt was worth it all. I did it!

Little did I know this race would help me to become part of a 4x400m relay team on the Japan Grand prix that would go on to qualify for a spot on the World Championships team for Australia.

Over the past few months since returning from World Championships I have been able to train consistently for the first time in 3 years. I feel like a brand new athlete, the past 3 years is all behind me now and being able to start a season with every opportunity to run to my potential is what I am truly grateful for.

In the past I think I have become too focused, determined and too desperate. Involving myself in other things away from athletics such as body sculpting and modelling, has definitely been a positive thing. For the first time in a long time I have found my mind occupied with other things. I then found myself feeling more relaxed at training and with my athletic career in general.

I would like to give a big Thankyou to both Sam and Edward at Runners Tribe. You guys have been fantastic. The support you both at Runners tribe have given me is greatly appreciated.  The runners tribe sponsorship has not only been great for supplying me with shoes and clothing throughout the year but having the rights to a personal blog on the runners tribe website has helped to promote my athlete profile in a huge way. Due to the fantastic exposure that I received I have received numerous modelling jobs and sponsorships.

I have known for along time what I want to be doing in my life. And this year has included huge breakthroughs into my desired career. I have made huge inroads into my career as an athlete and together with this I have managed a big step into the modelling and advertising world.
So all in all I have had a very successful year and with the next athletic season just around the corner I can’t wait for what awaits me this year.

Berlin Olympic Stadium - Most Impressive Ever!

The Berlin Olympic Stadium is by far the most impressive I've ever seen.

berlin olympic stadium Everyone knows the story - it's the stadium where the 1936 Olympics were held under Hitler's watchful eye; and where African American athlete Jesse Owens dominated, much to Hitler's distaste. The question of whether Hitler refused to shake Owens' hand or not continues...

But the history aside, it's simply stunning. Being out of the city, it avoided the Allied bombing during World War II, and the original stone stadium remains standing. It was redone for the World Cup, but they cleverly kept much of the original stone where possible, and they have integrated the new and the old brilliantly.

Walking up to the stadium, you're greeted by huge stone pillars, and brick work surrounding the stadium. The steps, much of the stands, and the everything apart from the seats are made of the original stone, in a fashion very reminiscent of the Colosseum.

Then there's the blue track. Sometimes it's nice to be different, and blue suits the stadium so much better than the pale orange we're used to. Sitting next to the green grass just makes it even better, and there's no doubt the colours will make fantastic television.

It's what makes this stadium unique and so different to the others that makes it special. The history, but also the aesthetics make it an inspiring place to be, as an athlete or as a spectator. berlin olympic stadium
